Assesed Task - Part 2

SUITS





Suits is a US legal drama aired in the states and the UK using broadcasting channel DAVE. Suits US have over time promoted the release of each season using various social media applications, the most common of these being Instagram. Suits season 7 was released on July 12th for American audiences and should be available in the coming months for European viewers also.


To advertise the release of the US season 7, @Suits_usa Instagram account posted a series of 'countdown images' which featured each of the main characters-The post included a link to the broadcaster of the episodes (@usa_network) and catchphrases/quotes from the series that only viewers/fans would recognise. The series of posts followed a pattern through the characters starting with the newest of the legal team and gives the viewers a chance to reacquaint with the characters 5 days prior to the re-release of the series. This encourages viewers to interact once more with the series a week before the broadcast of the first episode, most importantly of all it redirects the Instagram users to the page of the network from which the episodes will be broadcasted which gives further information on the series for example the 100th episode.










In addition to this, throughout the time the programme was missing from our screens and we were awaiting the announcement of the new series, a series of GIF memes were put into circulation aimed to amuse viewers and even remind them of episodes they wanted to re-watch. This form of communication is favoured particularly by young people at present, therefore, Suits USA have employed this tactic to re-interest their young adult 16-34-year-old target audience. The platform on which they chose to release these 'memes' links again to the target audience they are aiming to appeal to as it is likely that those aged between 16 and 34 will be familiar with social networking and are likely to have access to an Instagram account. The same online material was posted from the shows own Facebook and Twitter accounts, this provides the synergy needed to constantly remind viewers that the show will soon be back on live television - once more this links to the 16-34 year old demographic who are stereotypically expected to watch suits , but also helps widen this to potentially a 34+ age group who are less likely to be involved in Instagram but more on Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with family and friends.
